The Instinctively Wild Nature Journaling Programme (run by me) in Upper Tweeddale is an inspiring community initiative funded by SSE, designed to reconnect people with the natural world through creativity, observation, and reflection. This programme introduces participants to the practice of nature journaling, combining field observation with watercolour painting, sketching, and reflective writing.
Set within the beautiful landscapes of Upper Tweeddale, the programme encourages participants to slow down and experience nature through mindfulness.
Guided sessions focus on noticing seasonal changes and the colours and textures of the local environment. We visit Broughtonknowe Community Woodland each week.
Through mindful observation and nature journaling, participants develop a deeper awareness of the natural world while improving their artistic skills.
Workshops include practical techniques in watercolour painting, drawing, and field sketching, making the programme suitable for beginners and those looking to expand their creative practice.
The combination of nature journaling and mindfulness supports wellbeing by encouraging calm, focus, and creativity outdoors.
By blending art, mindfulness, and environmental awareness, the Instinctively Wild programme helps people build a lasting connection with nature. Participants leave with a deeper appreciation of the Upper Tweeddale landscape and the skills to continue their nature journaling and watercolour painting practice independently.
